Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is characterized by fatigue, muscular pain and tenderness, as well as problems with thinking and memory. Moderate exercise including aerobic conditioning, strengthening, stretching, and manual therapy have been shown to decrease pain, improve function, overall physical health, and sleep in patients with fibromyalgia. A physical therapist can teach patients to manage pain signals and manage symptoms through exercise.
